ClassDojo

“ClassDojo connects teachers with students and parents to build amazing classroom
communities” (classdojo.com/#LearnMore).  My daughter’s teacher uses ClassDojo for
the purposes of sharing pictures of mystery readers visiting the classroom, sharing
science experiments that the children have taken part in, and also for sharing important
notices and information with parents.  Our school principal will also post important
news for parents as all the K-5 teachers utilize ClassDojo. Although my daughter’s
teacher does not take advantage of all that the ClassDojo app has to offer, I like being
able to get a small glimpse of what happens in Eloise’s classroom.  When I mention
something that was posted on ClassDojo, it is a great way to start a conversation about
her day. Otherwise when I ask about her what she did that day, the reply is often, “I
don’t remember.” It is easy for parents to set up their account once the teacher sends
home the needed information to connect for your child.  ClassDojo sends email
notifications when something has been posted on ClassDojo and it is very simple to
check out the new information using the app.

ClassDojo is a free app that can track attendance, record student behavior, and

produce helpful reports that teachers can share with parents and colleagues. Teachers can assess participation, perseverance, hard work, and teamwork and overall performance in class.  ClassDojo can be used as an observational assessment tool using custom behaviors. ClassDojo allows teachers and parents to translate their messages in 35 different languages. Students can also create and share digital portfolios that can be used for assessment.

Reflection:  I am excited to start using ClassDojo in my own classroom.  It will be so much simpler to communicate with parents using this app.  I am lucky that I do get to see most parents face to face at drop off or pick up, but there are those times when I forget to tell them something important.  Sending out a quick message on ClassDojo will be a lot easier than making twenty phone calls.
